About 'Gospel To Gillette'

Objective:
Scripture tells us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), and that the wages for this sin is death (Romans 6:23). This means that we have a serious problem. The goal of "Gospel to Gillette" is to explain why this is a problem, and how God has provided the solution through the person / work of Jesus Christ.

Oversight:

This ministry is under the ecclesiastical oversight of a local Gillette church (to find out more, please click here). However, there are a number of Godly churches in our community. The desire of Gospel To Gillette is not to advocate a specific congregation over its brethren, but to advocate the Scriptural basis that undergirds each.

Invitation:
In Acts 5, the high priest who had arrested Peter and the others accused them, saying "You have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine!"

If only we could be accused in like manner!

If you would like to be part of an effort to fill Gillette with the Good News of a risen Christ, please click here to email. We currently need additional members for our steering committee and for various volunteer opportunities. Beyond this, we ask that you would pray for our community and for this effort. The glory of God and the salvation of His people are at stake; there are no greater concerns than these, and no greater privilege to partake in.

"The Gospel is called the ‘good news’ because it addresses the most serious problem that you and I have as human beings, and that problem is simply this: God is holy and He is just, and I’m not."

"The heart of the gospel is redemption, and the essence of redemption is the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ. They who preach this truth preach the gospel in whatever else they may be mistaken; but they who preach not the atonement, whatever else they declare, have missed the substance of the message!"

September 17, 2011: "On September 17th, the Campbell County Centennial Festival will be held at Lasting Legacy Park here in Gillette. 'Gospel To Gillette' will be present at the Festival, distributing Bibles and other materials from our GTG tent/table from 12PM to 10PM. On this same day, we will also be distributing Bibles at the 'Picking Up The Pieces' clothing exchange at Harvest Presbyterian Church."

August 9, 2011:  "We were able to distribute many Bibles, tracts and related materials at the 2011 Campbell County Fair. The response (particularly for Bibles) was substantial, suggesting the thirst that Gillette has for God's Word. Believers in our community have been sent as ambassadors to those that who are lost and hurting: 'Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.' (2 Corinthians 5:20)."

July 8, 2011: "Next month, Gospel To Gillette will host a booth at the Campbell County Fair where Bibles, tracts, sermons, and other Gospel materials will be given away free. We are hoping to provide free bottled water (with the Gospel on each label) to fair attendees. This event will not be to advocate a particular church, but to advance the Gospel itself... those who are zealous for the glory of God and the salvation of others are invited to volunteer."

THE PROBLEM OF SIN (DETAILED)

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
- Romans 3:23

Simply put, the problem that you and I have is that God is good, and we are not.

If God is supremely good, then He must be supremely opposed to that which is evil. And that's exactly the claim made in Scripture (and exactly why we've got such a huge problem). You see, perfection doesn't operate on a sliding scale. If our Creator really is holy and perfect, then even if we were to commit only one sin amidst a million years of otherwise righteous acts, that single sin would be enough to convict us and separate us from Him. This was proved through the sin of Adam (Genesis 3), and if Adam (and all of creation for that matter) fell as a result of a single sin...

...then what hope do you and I have?

When we sin, we need to realize that this is an assault against God himself, not against some law that is outside of Him. This is because there is unity between who God is and what God does. When we sin, we are seeking to cast Him from His throne, in order to take on the “divine prerogative” that belongs to Him alone. To do this is to to claim Godhood for ourselves... because it involves making ourselves the measure of our environment, as we claim autonomy over some part of His creation.

Now, in Romans 3:23, Paul equates sin with “falling short” of God’s glory. What does this mean?

Well, among other things, this means that our “Plan B” is not equal to God’s “Plan A,” and when we sin, we need to recognize this. However, many folks believe that one can love God and yet discard His agenda. The thinking here is that “Well, we’re only human, and God is a hip guy, and He’ll understand if His people have to adapt our faith to fit our circumstances.” This leads us to see sin NOT as an assault against His throne, but merely as “another path” or “another choice.”

Well, if that were true, and God was the least bit ambivalent toward our sins, then how can we explain what happened to Adam in Genesis 3?

For that matter, how can we explain the cross?

Again, to fall short of the glory of God is a serious problem. By why is that a problem? Well, it is a problem because of what the penalty is for such an act, as we’ll see in our next Verse, Romans 6:23.
